Dear Colleagues,
As we celebrate another class of graduates, I am proud to mark the end of my second academic year as dean of the College of Pharmacy. These past two years have been more inspiring and fulfilling than I could have imagined, and I’m excited for what’s to come here at the college. Every day, I witness excellence in teaching, learning, research, practice and outreach by our talented Pharmacy Buckeyes. These achievements are fueled by a willingness to embrace risks and explore new possibilities.
One of the most thrilling parts of my role has been seeing students voluntarily take on challenges and opportunities beyond their academic requirements. Many present their innovative projects at events like the Three Minute Thesis competitions, Denman Undergraduate Research Forum and our annual Research Day. These events allow students to showcase their efforts to new, curious audiences and take pride in their work.
I have also been impressed by pharmacy students stepping out of the classroom—and their comfort zones—to advocate for their profession and patients. Every year, a group of PharmD students heads downtown for the Ohio Pharmacists Association Student Legislative Day to speak directly with state lawmakers about important issues facing the pharmacy field. I’m proud of our students for finding the courage to drive change.
These are just a few examples of the many experiences at our college that enhance students’ classroom learning and benchwork. When our pharmacy students receive an immersive, holistic education, they develop into effective, empathetic practitioners. When our student researchers showcase their work to the Ohio State community, they open doors to collaboration and demonstrate the critical role of pharmaceutical sciences in advancing health care for all. These opportunities define the Ohio State College of Pharmacy, and I am committed to expanding them for all students.
The dedication of our faculty and staff, along with the drive of our students and alumni, inspires me. I hope as you read through this issue of The Script magazine, it will inspire you, too.
Go Buckeyes!
