The Ohio State University Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a Specialization in Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (MS HSPAL) educates and trains pharmacists to conceptualize, plan, coordinate and evaluate pharmaceutical care in organized healthcare settings. 

MS HSPAL students learn to:

• Develop a strategic vision for current and future health-system pharmacy services
• Design, implement, and evaluate current and future health-system pharmacy services
• Apply healthcare process improvement to promote better health-system pharmacy care at lower costs
• Apply leadership and finance principles to build successful health-system pharmacy teams and services
• Develop competence in clear, simple and effective written and oral communication

Choose your format

This MS HSPAL program is offered in two formats: a hybrid Combined Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (PAL) Residency Program and a 100% online Working Professional MS HSPAL Program.

Ohio State has been a national leader in health-system pharmacy administration and leadership training since 1959. The program has graduated more than 400 alumni, many of whom have become influential leaders in pharmacy management, including past ASHP presidents, Harvey A.K. Whitney Award recipients and more than 50 current directors of pharmacy at institutions across the country.

The MS HSPAL program is built on a longstanding tradition of leadership, innovation and excellence that continues to shape health-system pharmacy. One of the program’s most influential leaders, Clifton J. Latiolais, helped transform hospital pharmacy through his commitment to innovation, mentorship and developing future leaders. Guided by his motto, “Enthusiasm for Excellence,” he fostered a culture that has inspired generations of graduates and remains a defining hallmark of the program today.

It is not only our long-standing tradition that sets the program apart, but also the strength of the alumni community engaged in the Latiolais Leadership Program. Comprised of program graduates, this network offers exceptional mentorship and networking opportunities for Ohio State MS HSPAL students while collaborating to address current challenges and advance innovative approaches to health-system pharmacy leadership.
