Strategic Plan

A letter from Dean Deanna Kroetz

Pharmacy Buckeyes,

Our college is embarking on a bold new chapter with the launch of our 2025-2029 strategic plan. Since joining as dean in September 2023, I have been inspired by the dedication and passion within our community. I was tasked by the provost to develop a five-year strategic plan that will help guide our work during my tenure. This plan is a testament to our collective vision and commitment to excellence.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners. Your invaluable input and feedback have been instrumental in shaping our strategic priorities. Your dedication and support are the foundation of our success.

Our strategic priorities span Education, Research, Practice, Outreach and Engagement, People and Culture, and Resources. These pillars will guide us as we strive to innovate, inspire, and improve health for all. Working together, we will enhance our educational programs, advance groundbreaking research, and strengthen our connections with communities locally and globally.

We have long been an outstanding college – I am excited to build upon the great work we’ve done to improve human health through innovation and advocacy.

I look forward to this exciting journey with all of you.

Go Buckeyes!

Timeline and Process

September 2023

Dean Deanna Kroetz joins the College of Pharmacy on September 1, 2023.

Dean Meets with College Faculty

September-December 2023

Dean Deanna Kroetz engages with all faculty members to hear about the college's strengths and opportunities as a basis for the initiation of strategic planning.

Strategic Planning Process Begins

January 2024

Dean Kroetz launched a planning process for a five-year strategic plan. She identified Associate Deans Kathy Kelley and Jennifer Rodis as the primary faculty to manage the process. Their first step was securing an outside consultant to partner with them. Anne Massaro, PhD, was chosen for her familiarity with the college from previous consulting engagements.

Hearing from Stakeholders

March 2024

Through a series of facilitated conversations, the Executive Committee drafted the college’s mission and vision. Simultaneously, an assessment of current state began, including ten focus groups for faculty and staff and twelve individual interviews with partners, alumni and members of external agencies. The input was summarized in the form of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOTs). From there, a list of critical issues was created, with each issue identified for resolution through the planning process. The Executive Committee validated and refined the SWOTs and critical issues.

Strategic Planning Retreat

May 2024

On May 6, faculty and staff from the college assembled for a retreat. Drafts of the mission and vision were shared, as well as the summary of the college's current state. Teams began working on the critical issues, defining pathways for resolution. The outcomes of the May retreat were used to write strategic priorities with actionable goals.

Strategic Priorities Validated

June 2024

Leads were named for each of the six strategic priorities. Division Chairs were asked to validate the priorities and goals with their faculty. The Dean’s Corporate Council and students were invited to give feedback as were several partners external to the college. That feedback was incorporated into the final plan.

Plan Finalized

July-October 2024

leads for the strategic priorities gathered small teams of faculty and staff to articulate success measures, action steps, responsible parties and resources for the previously identified goals.
