BSPS student receives second place at Denman Undergraduate Research Forum

On March 4, seven College of Pharmacy BSPS students presented their research at the university’s annual Denman Undergraduate Research Forum. Chloe Delnicki, of the Rakotondraibe Lab, received second place in the Understanding Cancer category for her project, “Isolation and structure elucidation of cytotoxic secondary metabolites of hernandia voyronii.”
As an associate professor and director of undergraduate research at the college, Liva Rakotondraibe, PhD, believes the research experiences available at the college help undergraduate students to grow in more ways than one.

"Undergraduate student researchers grow not only as scientists, but also as good and responsible leaders," he said. "During their time in the laboratory, there are many opportunities for personal development and mentored research projects."
Dr. Rakotondraibe stressed the importance of undergraduate students having research opportunities to prepare them for a multitude of career opportunities.
“Undergraduates who want to go to graduate school or medical school and to work after graduation are in a better position if they have research skills,” he said. “And it’s important that they explore research opportunities to learn and to know their best fit.”
