Background
In 2022, the Ohio Attorney General’s Scientific Committee on Opioid Prevention & Education published survey results that highlighted a need for standardization around opioid use disorder (OUD) curricula for health sciences students around the state of Ohio. To meet this need, a SCOPE educational subcommittee co-chaired by Dr. Kelsey Schmuhl designed a new educational offering for Ohio health sciences students. Through partnership with the College’s Learning Design and Multimedia team, this fully online program launched on ScarletCanvas, the college’s public learning management system, in spring 2022.
Mission
The program leverages asynchronous methodologies to teach about key OUD topics (e.g. neurobiology, Adverse Childhood Experiences, Treatment of OUD, Neurobiology, etc.) and enhance interprofessional approaches to caring for patients with OUD.
- 4,000+ Health sciences students educated since the program's launch
