Family, friends and colleagues gathered at The Blackwell Inn Pavilion on Tuesday, May 26, to give James McAuley, RPh, PhD, FAPhA, a final farewell as he enters a new chapter: retirement.

After 33 years of service in academic affairs, teaching, precepting, community building and student success at the college, Dr. McAuley is officially signing off.

In addition to his various roles at the College of Pharmacy, Dr. McAuley also practiced as a clinical pharmacist in the Epilepsy Division of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for 28 years.

His contributions to the university go beyond his professional roles, especially for colleagues like Nicole Kwiek, PhD, senior associate dean for academic affairs and educational innovation and clinical professor.

“He has been my daily anchor, my sounding board and a phenomenal support person,” Dr. Kwiek said in remarks at the event. “It is a rare and wonderful thing to find a colleague who transitions so seamlessly into a lifelong friend.”

Dr. McAuley’s legacy will continue to live through the generations of students he has taught and mentored and the colleagues who have worked alongside him. Though the College of Pharmacy will be losing a great leader, his influential impact will last a lifetime.
