A bittersweet farewell to Bonnie Spiers, BS Pharm '71

On June 1, Bonnie Spiers, BS Pharm '71, will officially be retired from the College of Pharmacy. Spiers' journey in Parks Hall started as a student. After receiving her BS in Pharmacy in 1971, Spiers had a long and distinguished career in long‑term care pharmacy. Her work ensured that nursing home residents received the medications they needed, and her leadership on the corporate side of the field helped shape best practices across the profession.

Fourteen years ago, the college welcomed Spiers back to campus as part of the experiential education team. Since then, she has guided every first‑year student through their very first rotations, served faithfully through the admissions committee, supported Community Health Service and helped coordinate IPPE experiences in nursing homes. Her role in experiential education has been impactful for the countless students who took their first steps into the profession under her guidance.
