Students and faculty provide services to seniors at Ohio State Fair

College of Pharmacy faculty and students provided services to attendees of the Healthy Aging Expo at the Ohio State Fair on August 4. The expo occurs each year on Senior Day at the fair and offers a range of services and information for adults age 60 and over. 

The College of Pharmacy Office of Outreach and Engagement's Point-of-care Testing Program provided blood glucose and blood pressure screenings, while Generation Rx provided medication safety education. 

"This event is always a great opportunity for our students to practice point-of-care testing skills and patient encounters while also providing valuable services to Ohioans," said Jen Rodis, associate dean for outreach and engagement. "Plus, it is fun to be at the fair and all the excitement that it brings." 

During the six-hour event, seven students and three faculty members provided 100 blood pressure and blood glucose screenings, and Generation Rx had 422 one-on-one safe medication use interactions. 

Additionally, Generation Rx, a national medication safety program at the college, provided hundreds of attendees with important information on how to properly use medications.
