Pharmacy Council surprises advisor Dr. James McAuley with a farewell gift

April 9, 2026

On April 8, the Pharmacy Council held its last general body meeting of the academic year, with a special farewell surprise planned for James McAuley, RPh, PhD, the council's advisor and associate dean for student success.

For Dr. McAuley, the last Pharmacy Council general body meeting proceeded as usual, with students taking their seats and attendance being taken. It wasn't until Heather A. Patacca, Pharmacy Council president, and Adriana Ricciardi, treasurer, called Dr. McAuley on stage at the front of the room that he knew a special farewell was coming.

At the end of the year, Dr. McAuley will be retiring after 33 years at the College of Pharmacy. When Dr. McAuley made his arrival on stage, Ricciardi presented a heartfelt farewell speech in dedication to his excellence as an advisor, professor and leader. Her sincere words were followed by a warm speech from Patacca.

At the end of the speeches, the Pharmacy Council gifted Dr. McAuley three framed name adjective art. Students then signed each of the three images with kind words about the impact Dr. McAuley has made on their academic and professional careers.

After receiving this pleasant surprise, Dr. McAuley had a few kind words of his own to share. Without a pause, Dr. McAuley brought out a binder with a printed speech, thanking the students for a wonderful experience on this year's Pharmacy Council.

As he reached the final page in his printed farewell to the students, the page read, "I will miss you, please take care of you."
