Generation Rx educates Wellington School students on medication safety
Earlier this month, a team of faculty, staff, and students from the College of Pharmacy's Generation Rx program visited Wellington Middle School in Upper Arlington to engage 5th-8th-grade students in medication safety activities.
In 5th-grade classrooms, students focused on core medication safety messages, such as storing medication in a safe place and taking only medication meant for them.
"We were so impressed with the students’ engagement in our activities and how much they remembered from our lesson last year," said Emilee Drerup, community outreach coordinator for Generation Rx.
Students in the 6-8 grade classrooms piloted a new scenario-based activity that emphasized the potential risks of sharing or taking someone else’s medicine.
"We really appreciated the students being willing to share their ideas and thoughts with their classmates and us," Drerup said. "We learned a lot from the students during our discussion and when they were able to provide feedback on the activity."
