Debra Goff selected by ASM to lobby Congress for outbreak response funding
Clinical Professor Debra Goff, PharmD, was selected as an infectious disease global health expert by the American Society of Microbiology (ASM) to lobby Congress for $1 billion in funding to improve international capacity to prevent, detect and rapidly respond to outbreaks. Investment areas include disease surveillance, laboratory systems and training health care personnel in the United States and low-middle income countries.
Dr. Goff was on a team that included an infectious diseases physician from the University of Virginia, a microbiologist from Pakistan and a member of ASM. Dr. Goff led the discussion for the team meetings with Ohio Rep. Bob Latta and Sen. Sherrod Brown. Her team also met with Sen. Tim Kaine, Sen. Brian Schatz and Rep. Ami Bera, the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee.
