Deanna Kroetz, PhD, BS Pharm ’85, dean and professor at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, received an honorary doctorate from the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) Faculty of Health Sciences.

Awarded during SDU's Annual University Celebration, the honorary doctorate recognizes researchers whose scientific achievements are considered so distinguished that they merit the university's highest academic honor.

Dean Kroetz was presented with the honorary doctorate on Oct. 30 during the Annual University Celebration. Since SDU's founding in 1966, the event has celebrated the institution's academic achievements, research excellence, students, alumni and staff. The celebration held special significance this year as the university marked its 60th anniversary. Among those in attendance was King Frederik X of Denmark.

In conjunction with the celebration, Dean Kroetz joined five fellow honorary doctorate recipients on Oct. 29 for a panel discussion titled "What should a university be in a changing world?", hosted by the Danish Institute for Advanced Study (DIAS).

The discussion focused on the future of higher education as SDU enters its next chapter following six decades of growth and success. Panelists reflected on how universities can adapt to rapid technological advances, evolving societal needs and changing approaches to research collaboration, mentorship and education while continuing to serve as centers of discovery and innovation.
