College unveils Dr. Jack L. Beal Room at ribbon-cutting ceremony

The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Dr. Jack L. Beal Room on Oct. 2. The meeting room, located on the second floor of the college’s new Student Learning Center in the Riffe Building, was named after the late professor emeritus with the financial support of Richard “Ric” Moulton Mora Sr., BS ’63.
Mora is a distinguished alumnus of Ohio State, where he earned his BS in Pharmacy in 1963 and was a member of the 1963 national championship men's swimming team. In addition to his leadership in the Sacramento Valley Alumni Club, Mora has made multiple gifts supporting the College of Pharmacy and Athletics Department.
This new contribution to the College of Pharmacy stands to honor the legacy of Dr. Beal, a pillar of the College of Pharmacy and the field of pharmacognosy. Dr. Beal earned his PhD at the College of Pharmacy in 1952 and was appointed assistant professor that same year. He would soon become a professor of pharmacognosy and an associate dean in the college before retiring in 1986. Dr. Beal is credited with launching the College of Pharmacy Alumni Society Board.
Dr. Beal’s children, Mike Beal, Linda Beal Blandy and Karen Beal; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren attended the event to witness the official unveiling of the room. The family members received a guided tour of the College of Pharmacy, reexploring landmarks from their childhood that included their father’s office and lab. Also in attendance were Molly Ranz Calhoun, president and CEO of the Ohio State Alumni Association; Deanna Kroetz, PhD, BS Pharm '85, dean and professor at the College of Pharmacy; and other faculty and staff from the college.
