Alex Varkey '07 named 2025 Latiolais Leadership Award recipient
Alex C. Varkey, PharmD, MS '07, FAPhA, has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Clifton J. Latiolais Leadership Award, an honor recognizing outstanding leadership and contributions to institutional pharmacy practice, education, administration, and research.
Dr. Varkey’s career spans nearly two decades of service to the American Pharmacists Association, where he most recently served as the organization’s 169th President. His tenure at Houston Methodist Hospital spanned 16 years, during which he served as Director of Pharmacy, leading several transformative initiatives. These included the implementation of technology-driven innovations and the development of a nationally recognized Controlled Substance Diversion Prevention Program.
He also established an award-winning Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership residency program, further contributing to the advancement of pharmacy education and leadership development.
Dr. Varkey currently serves as Senior Director of Strategic Accounts at Visante, where he continues his work in health-system pharmacy leadership.
