Dr. Hu’s current research interests focus on the role of solute carriers, in particularly OATP1Bs, in the disposition and toxicity of commonly prescribed drugs. Her lab integrates in vitro and in vivo model systems, aims to design preclinical and clinical studies to explore pharmaceutical agents as modulators of side effects associated with tubulin poisons, in particular peripheral neuropathy and myelotoxicity.

The Kroetz laboratory studies the molecular basis of interindividual variability in chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Genome-wide genotyping and exome sequencing are used to identify genetic biomarkers of peripheral neurotoxicity. Novel genes and pathways are functionally interrogated in human iPSC-derived sensory neurons to define the molecular basis for genetic association findings and therapeutic strategies for reversal or prevention are investigated.
