Ohio State alumnus, Sean Jeffery (PharmD ’97), is just one of our many alumni leading in the field of Pharmacy. Jeffery is currently the director of clinical pharmacy services at Integrated Care Partners. Jeffery seeks to use his leadership skills in a position with the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Board of Trustees.

Hailing from Connecticut, Jeffery came to Ohio State as a professional student and credits The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy with helping him develop his leadership skills.

“The independent study program was great in that it forced me to develop critical thinking skills – skills I thought I already possessed,” said Jeffery. He also credits the excellent faculty and the emphasis on community involvement at Ohio State for his motivation to run for the APhA board. “I witnessed through Ohio State’s pharmacy leadership, the importance of advocating for our profession and getting involved at a national level.”

Jeffery has grown in leadership roles since leaving Ohio State, and wants to see other pharmacists in leadership positions.

“Throughout my career I have served in a variety of leadership positions in professional organizations and the private sector,” said Jeffery. “I believe pharmacists would be more invested if they were given the tools to better understand the industry as a whole and were encouraged by their employers to seek leadership positions.”

Jeffery ultimately hopes his career focused on implementing innovative patient care services for seniors helps expand the role of pharmacists in care coordination.

“I want to help focus resources to help APhA members transform their practices and address the many work-life challenges they face in today’s metric-driven healthcare industry,” he said.
