Marcia Nusgart

Marcia Nusgart, RPh, BS ’76, will chair The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy Dean’s Corporate Council (DCC) beginning spring 2022. She will take over for Andrew Dahlem, PhD, DVM, who served in the role from 2018-2021. As chair, Nusgart will help facilitate conversations between academia and pharmacy practice and industry partners to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the health care field.

She is also the founder and executive director of the Alliance of Wound Care Stakeholders, a non-profit multidisciplinary association for clinical organizations whose members treat patients with wounds. As executive director of the Alliance, Nusgart is viewed as a highly visible, respected and credible source of industry information for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and their contractors, the Food and Drug Administration and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. She also serves as executive director for the Coalition of Wound Care Manufacturers. In both positions, she advocates for appropriate public policy processes in health care.

In addition, Nusgart is the president and founder of Nusgart Consulting, LLC. She is a nationally recognized Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) coding expert and an industry leader in providing comprehensive strategies to medical device, pharmaceutical and biological manufacturers regarding coding, coverage and reimbursement issues under Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payers.

Recognizing that the current HCPCS coding system is not timely, transparent and understandable for manufacturers to navigate, Nusgart founded the Alliance for HCPCS II Coding Reform, comprised of key law firms, lobbying firms, associations, coalitions, medical device companies and reimbursement consulting companies who advocate for CMS to modernize the HCPCS coding process. Many of the recent HCPCS process coding changes are due to the advocacy efforts of this organization.

Nusgart previously held positions in the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) and the National Community Pharmacy Association. She also has served in senior positions for Super X Drugs, now known as CVS, and the pharmaceutical company Merck.

She has published numerous articles on wound care and speaks at various conferences such as the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care Conferences, European Wound Management Association, World Union of Wound Healing Societies, American College of Tissue Healing and Wound Repair, FDA and NIH Meetings.

Nusgart has received numerous honors including:

  • 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award by the Ohio State College of Pharmacy
  • Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) Leadership Award
  • Designation of Master from the American Professional Wound Care Association (APWCA)

Both the AAWC Leadership Award and the designation of Master from APWCA honor key opinion leaders who have made significant contributions impacting wound care.

In addition to serving as the DCC board chair, she currently serves on the boards for the George Washington University Regulatory Affairs Programs Advisory Board, Wound Source Board and Jewish Social Services Agency of Greater Washington.

“Marcia’s decades of service to the college have been an incredible asset and having her chair our advisory corporate council is just another example of the impact she has on our students, faculty and staff and the college community generally,” said Henry Mann, dean and professor of the college. “I am delighted that she accepted the role and look forward to working together.”

“I am honored for the privilege of leading our excellent OSU College of Pharmacy Dean’s Corporate Council in our exemplary mission of continued greater collaboration in the fields of academia, pharmacy practice and corporate industry,” Nusgart said. “Looking forward to continuing the tradition of great leadership shown by my predecessors Andy Dahlem, Andy Vick, John MacDonald and John Long. GO BUCKS!”
