The Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) is one of less than 20 such programs in the country that provides exceptional training for success in a variety of healthcare or research-oriented/non-clinical graduate programs and careers.
The program's innovative coursework emphasizes cutting-edge integrated science learning, hands-on laboratory experiences and career development.
The BSPS program offers two pathways depending on students’ post-graduation goals: Healthcare Professions and Drug Discovery & Development.
High school students who are interested in pursuing a career in pharmacy may apply to Ohio State's Early Assurance Program (EAP). Students selected for this program are guaranteed admission into Ohio State’s Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program if all EAP criteria are met and maintained throughout their undergraduate career. Students interested in this option would enroll in the Healthcare Professions Pathway.
Healthcare Professions Pathway
The Healthcare Professions Pathway incorporates the prerequisite coursework needed for professional programs like dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and other disciplines in health sciences, while also linking higher-level concepts to clinical practice and patient care.
Drug Discovery & Development Pathway
The Drug Discovery and Development Pathway is designed for students intending to pursue research-based graduate programs or careers in the pharmaceutical industry (i.e. Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences program or PhD).
The BSPS major was the best decision I made coming into college. I came in knowing I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field helping others, but was unsure exactly what I wanted to do. BSPS is a great major for anyone in my position, as it contains all the prerequisites needed for any career in medicine. I will be applying for medical schools this summer, and I will be taking with me all the knowledge I've learned here. Not only are the major classes engaging, but unlike other "pre-med" majors, all the electives are related to healthcare as well. Through my major and experiences while in the program, I've been able to travel the world, go to professional conferences to present my research, and meet great people along the way. The majority of this major are future pharmacists, but in my classes are future physicians, dentists, therapists, nurse practitioners, and more. For anyone wanting to pursue a career helping others in the medical field, this is the major for you.
