Professional Interests

Dr. Buatois is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist practicing in the area of inpatient internal medicine. She has a passion for experiential education and postgraduate training. She equips pharmacy students and residents with the critical thinking skills they need to be successful pharmacists in the future. Her scholarship focuses on pharmacist impact on the management of acute illness as well as the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Biography

Emily Buatois, PharmD, BCPS, is an assistant professor – Clinical in the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the Purdue University College of Pharmacy and completed her PGY1 & PGY2 pharmacy residency training in pharmacotherapy at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Pharmacy. Dr. Buatois was a faculty member in the Pharmacy Practice Department at TTUHSC for three years before joining The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy in 2024. Dr. Buatois practices as an internal medicine specialty practice pharmacist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where she provides care to hospitalized patients within an interdisciplinary team. Dr. Buatois precepts APPE students and PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents on their internal medicine learning experiences. In the academic setting, Dr. Buatois develops and facilitates the P3 Program-Level Assessment (PLA), and she oversees the Literature Evaluation components of the curriculum.

Dr. Buatois is involved in professional organizations including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. She currently holds committee and leadership roles in both the ACCP Adult Medicine and Education and Training Practice and Research Networks (PRNs). She has a passion for experiential education and a strong interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning, specifically around how critical thinking skills play a role in learner success in the experiential setting.
