Five first-year students from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy were selected to receive Land Grant Opportunity Scholarships (LGOS). The scholarship is part of President Michael Drake’s Access and Affordability initiative, and provides a full cost of attendance scholarship to 176 Ohio residents for up to eight full-time terms. The Land Grant Opportunity Scholarship is awarded to two students from each of Ohio’s 88 counties. Those selected demonstrate both academic merit and financial need. For the 2018-19 academic year, the scholarship is valued at $27,394, which covers tuition, room and board, books and supplies, as well as miscellaneous and personal expenses.

“Expanding the Land Grant Opportunity Scholarship Program is part of Ohio State’s commitment to help more students realize the dream of earning a college degree,” Executive Vice President and Provost Bruce A. McPheron said in a press release.

The College of Pharmacy students who received the scholarship this year include; Andre Anderson, Jax Gibson, Fiona Lin, Lyann Trinh and Megan Wang.

On receiving the scholarship, Trinh said it felt like her efforts to work hard and succeed before college were being acknowledged.

“I’ve always known I wanted to pursue higher education, but as a first generation college student, I didn’t have close resources to guide me through the process or show me what it was like,” Trinh said. “Having Ohio State recognize my potential and invest in me empowers me to continue working hard to achieve success.”

Congratulations to our students on receiving this prestigious scholarship!
