The College of Pharmacy provides a variety of equipment and services supporting all research groups.

We have in-house instrumentation, computing, electronics and facilities specialists, as well as a wide spectrum of resources deployed throughout the college.

Complementing the research equipment in individual investigators’ laboratories and division resources, the college maintains shared resources available to all our research personnel. College research personnel also have access to the instrumentation and services (NMR, MS and proteomics) of the Ohio State Campus Chemical Instrument Center, including the 600 and 800MHz NMR spectrometers located adjacent to the college’s 400MHz instrument.

LTQ Orbitrap is a hybrid mass spectrometer incorporating the LTQ linear trap for sample ionization, selection, fragmentation, and automatic gain control,  a curved linear trap for intermediate storage and short pulse injection; an Orbitrap™ analyzer for Fourier transformation based analysis; and a collision cell for performing CID experiments. The LTQ Orbitrap is capable of a resolution of 60 000 (FWHM) @ m/z 400 with a scan repetition rate of 1 second with a minimum resolution of 7500 and a maximum resolution of 100000 @ m/z 400, a mass range of m/z 50–2000 (LTQ) and m/z 200–4000 (Orbitrap), a mass accuracy of <5 ppm RMS for 3 days with external calibration or <2 ppm RMS with internal calibration, a dynamic Range of >10000 between mass spectra and >4 000 between highest and lowest detectable mass in one spectrum, capable of MS/MS and MSn scan functions.

TSQ quantiva is a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer with a scan rate of 15,000 amu/second at a resolution of 2 FWHM that can collect 500 SRMs/second (for any resolution from 0.2 through 2.0 FWHM), a resolution of 0.2 Da peak width (FWHM) across the entire mass range, a mass range of m/z 10-1850, and a mass stability of ±0.05 Da over a 24 hour period. It is connected to a Thermo Vanquish UHPLC system.

The Vanquish UHPLC system allows for pressures up to 1500 bar (22,000 psi) at flow rates up to 5 mL/min with an industry-leading flow and gradient precision and 2 x 3 solvent channels. The autosampler provide excellent injections up to 100 µL in 0.01 µL increments with incredible injection linearity even below 1 µl while allowing for automation of workflows with barcode reading. The column oven allows for 2 thermostatting modes (passive and forced air) with a 5 ºC to 120 ºC temperature range and provides active preheating. All connections in the system are made with Viper capillaries with zero dead volume and finger tight installation.
