Dr. Kinghorn Selected as chair of the 2024 Tu Youyou Award Selection Committee

A. Douglas Kinghorn, PhD, DSc, Distinguished University Professor and Jack L. Beal Chair in the Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy, was invited by the publisher MDPI (Basel, Switzerland) to serve as chair of the selection committee for a 100,00 Swiss Franc prize for the 2024 Tu Youyou Award in natural products chemistry and medicinal chemistry.
Professor Tu was co-awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her discovery of the Chinese plant-derived antimalarial agent, artemisinin. She is a 1955 graduate of the Department of Pharmaceutics of the Beijing Medical College. Currently, several derivatives of artemisinin such as artemether and artesunate are used in the chemotherapy of malaria.
