Dr. Hall’s areas of focus include delivery of pharmacy services in innovative interprofessional sites, training students, and mentoring pharmacy practice residents. She strives to provide student pharmacists tools and guidance to find answers to address individual patient health care needs, exposing them to real world scenarios in the classroom and experiences for knowledge application and confidence building. As preceptor, she has mentored pharmacy residents in their early years of practice, as they learn research methods to answer new questions at their practice sites and provide an environment to create and develop skills teaching pharmacy students in the PharmD curriculum.

Laura E. Hall, PharmD, BCPS is an Assistant Professor – Practice in the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Science at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy (OSUCOP). She received her Bachelor of Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from The Ohio State University. After 16 years as a hospital generalist developing skills and initiating new services, she joined OSUCOP.  Dr. Hall is an Ohio-licensed pharmacist, and Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist.

Dr. Hall’s practice as an Ambulatory Care Pharmacist initially was in a group of Federally Qualified Health Centers focused on patient care and pharmacy and medication program development and management for an underserved and multicultural patient population.   In 2011 she transitioned her practice to OSU General Internal Medicine at a new training site for primary care medical residents as one of three OSUCOP faculty contracted to provide services at two sites. Since then, the physician office practice has grown with pharmacist presence at all six sites working under Collaborative Practice Agreements to provide patient care. Dr. Hall received OSU Wexner Medical Center credentialing privileges in 2017. In 2015, as a pharmacist team member, they received the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation Pinnacle Award (for Group Practices, Health Systems, and Health Care Corporations) given to OSU COP and Division of General Internal Medicine team.  With the growth and needs of the practice site, she has flexed her role, and is now focused on Transitional Care Management after patient hospital discharge.

Dr. Hall’s teaching responsibilities since the advent of the new PharmD curriculum in 2016, have been in leading efforts to consistently weave the Drug Information (DI) content through all four years of the I3 (Inquire, Innovate, Involve) curriculum. She coordinates two of the five foundational Concepts in Patient Care courses and developed and continues to teach DI concepts and skills essential for patient care in four of them.  Dr. Hall has provided experiential training as primary preceptor to both Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) students.

She has been involved with pharmacy residency training throughout her career.  Dr. Hall served as Residency Program Director for college residents completing their PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency offered in Ambulatory Care settings (2014-2020). She has served in a variety of roles, as primary preceptor, research advisor, and teaching mentor to both OSUCOP residents and for those completing residencies at OSU Wexner Medical Center and other programs.

Dr. Hall’s scholarly work has been as a research advisor for pharmacy resident research projects, first for residents trained at her practice site, and now to support community practice residents trained with our Ohio State external partners.

Dr. Barnes’ research interests include implementation science focused on expanding the role of pharmacists in ambulatory settings, the use of population health management to improve the quality and cost of care provided in primary care settings, the sustainability of pharmacist-provided care in primary care settings, and methods to develop and support pharmacy practice preceptors. Dr. Barnes’ passion lies with mentoring the next generation of the profession to achieve their own personal goals and dreams.

Kelli D. Barnes, PharmD, BCACP, FAPhA serves as the P3 IPPE Administrator at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. She received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Ohio Northern University and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Cincinnati. She then completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency and PGY2 ambulatory care residency at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy and is a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Specialist.

Prior to her transition into experiential education, Kelli provided innovative primary care including chronic disease, transitional care and population health management for complex patients. Kelli also led an outstanding team of primary care pharmacists who provided outstanding care to patients every day. This work created Kelli’s commitment to ensuring sustainability of pharmacy practice models to create and advance opportunities for pharmacist-provided care in innovative healthcare models and has fueled her research in this area.

Recently, Kelli has transitioned into the world of experiential education where she is passionate about ensuring all Doctor of Pharmacy students at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy have outstanding introductory pharmacy practice experiences with immersion in innovative and challenging practice environments. Her research interests in experiential practice include innovative methods to develop and support pharmacy practice preceptors.
