The College of Pharmacy Celebrates American Pharmacists Month

October is American Pharmacists Month. This year and every year, The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy joins its colleagues in celebrating the accomplishments of pharmacists as integral members of the health care team.

Pharmacy is one of the oldest of the health professions concerned with the health and well-being of all people. Today, there are more than 300,000 pharmacists licensed in the United States, providing services to ensure the safe and effective use of all medications.

In today’s health care system, pharmacists provide guidance and information for patients on both prescription and over-the-counter medications. Today’s powerful and complex medicines require greater attention to the manner in which they are used by different patient population groups—both clinically and demographically. Pharmacists have extensive education and expertise on drugs and medication therapy, which makes them ideally suited to work collaboratively with patients and their health care team members to improve best practices for medication use and outcomes.

Since 1885, The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy has made enormous strides in meeting specific needs of both students and patients by exploring new frontiers in pharmaceutical sciences. It is a leader in pharmacy outreach, with powerful partnerships in the community and across the globe.
