About

The Doctoral Hooding Ceremony is a distinct celebration recognizing the College of Pharmacy’s Doctor of Pharmacy Class of 2023 graduates. The ceremony will feature keynote speaker Henry J. Mann, PharmD, FCCP, FCCM, FASHP, Dean and Professor of the College of Pharmacy, an awards presentation, bestowing of the doctoral hood for each graduate, and recitation of the Oath of a Pharmacist.

The ceremony is expected to last from 3-5 p.m., immediately followed by a dessert reception outside the auditorium under a tent on the Mershon Plaza.

Please note that graduates do not receive their diploma at Hooding; that occurs at the university’s Spring Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 7 at noon. Details about University Commencement can be located at https://commencement.osu.edu/.

Parking

Self-parking is available at the Ohio Union South Parking Garage at 1759 N. High Street, south of Mershon Auditorium. The garage is $10 pre-pay upon entry via card – no cash will be accepted.

The small, metered parking area on the High Street side of Mershon may be used as a drop-off and pick-up point for attendees with limited mobility. A limited number of designated accessible parking spaces are located in that lot. Additional accessible parking spaces are designated within the Ohio Union South Garage.

Seating

Doors to Mershon open at 2 p.m. for guest seating. Note that graduates report to a different location than their guests to line up for the processional. Guests should be in their seats by 3 p.m. for the graduate processional into the auditorium, indicating the start of the ceremony.

Graduates may bring an unlimited number of guests. There are no tickets or RSVPs required for guests. Certain sections of the auditorium will be reserved for graduates and their hooders, with other sections available as open seating on a first-come, first-served basis.

Accessibility Accommodations

Main floor wheelchair accessible seating is available in the rear of the auditorium for guests with mobility-based needs and their companions. Please note that Mershon Auditorium does not have an elevator and the only access to the balcony is by stairs.

To plan accessible seating in advance or make other accommodation requests, please contact Accessibility Manager Helyn Marshall at accessibility@wexarts.org or call (614) 688-3890 as soon as possible.

Attire

Business professional attire is appropriate for this event. For graduates, full academic regalia (gown, hood, tam & tassel) is required to be worn.

Masks are currently optional in most indoor spaces on The Ohio State University campus, including Mershon Auditorium, though this is subject to change based on protocols and guidelines in effect at the university at the time of the event. Please note that 750-1,000 individuals are expected to attend this event.
