Experiential Education Program
The Ohio State College of Pharmacy is committed to preparing students to become outstanding pharmacists in current practice settings as well as future health care system environments. A critical component of the students’ education is active participation in “real world” practice settings. The professional pharmacy practice experiences begin in the first year and continue throughout the four years of the PharmD program. These experiences provide numerous opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the didactic courses, as well as reinforce and integrate the attitudes and values needed to become a trusted health care professional.
The Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) consist of over 300 hours throughout the first three professional years. The Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) are completed in the fourth year with a minimum of 1500 hours in a variety of practice settings. The combined hours of IPPE and APPE experiences comprise over 30% of the PharmD curriculum.
